Denmark recover lost ground in rankings
Conrad Smith broke through the Wallaby defence to score the All Blacks' first try in Tokyo

Denmark are the biggest climbers in the latest IRB World Rankings with a four place elevation to 66th on the back of their 27-18 victory over Hungary in their European Nations Cup Division 3B encounter in Odense on Saturday.

The climb nearly wipes out the five place fall Denmark suffered after losing to Norway two weeks earlier and results in a one place drop for Malaysia, Niue, Thailand and Peru.

As a consequence of the defeat, Hungary have slid four places to 64th - with Latvia, Cayman Islands, Senegal and Colombia the beneficiaries - and now sit just over five tenths above Denmark in the rankings.

Hungary, however, have moved to the top of Division 3B as a result of the point all sides receive for defeats in the European Nations Cup. They now sit above Slovenia on point differential, with Denmark now only two points adrift in the title race.

The only other side to improve their position in the IRB World Rankings is Croatia, who climb two places to 40th after making the most of home advantage in Split to beat Malta 34-14 and remain top of Division 2B.

Croatia have leapfrogged Uganda and gained the other place as a result of Moldova's three place fall to 43rd on the back of their 14-3 loss to Belgium in Brussels, a match which forms part of the region's RWC 2011 qualifying process.

This defeat in their Division 2A encounter has not resulted in a fall in the IRB World Rankings for Malta, although they have slipped to within two tenths of the Cook Islands beneath them in 55th.

Belgium also remain stationary in 31st after overcoming Moldova, although they sit a little more comfortably after increasing their cushion over Morocco from a few hundredths to four tenths of a rating point.

The Netherlands have increased their rating by one point with a 19-16 defeat of Sweden in the weekend's other Division 2B match, but they still remain 36th, albeit now only five hundredths behind Hong Kong and a further tenth adrift of Poland.

Bledisloe Cup clean sweep

Sweden's loss on home soil in Trelleborg means they drop two places to 46th with both Arabian Gulf and Trinidad & Tobago enjoying one place climbs as a result.

There was to have been one other European Nations Cup match over the weekend, but Armenia withdrew from their Division 3A encounter in Lithuania, giving the hosts a 6-0 victory under competition rules. This has no impact on the IRB World Rankings as Armenia are not yet a full Member Union of the International Rugby Board and therefore not ranked.

The highest profile match of the weekend was the final Bledisloe Cup match of the year in the Japanese capital Tokyo between New Zealand and Australia, match the All Blacks won 32-19 to make it seven straight victories over the Wallabies.

A clean sweep over the Wallabies in the Bledisloe Cup is nothing new for New Zealand as they have now managed it six times since the Tri Nations began, although this is the first time since 1962 a series has ended 4-0.

The latest All Black victory in this head-to-head leaves the two rivals still occupying second and third respectively, although New Zealand now sit 5.56 points above Australia as both head to Europe for end of year tours.

New Zealand, however, still remain 1.53 rating points behind number one side South Africa as they now turn their attention to their encounter with Wales at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, the same day the Wallabies face England.
